The Original Snapper Snatchers was founded in 2001 by a group of us who were looking for a way to celebrate our 50th birthdays. The father-in-law of one of our members, offered to take us deep-sea fishing as a gift. We were long time friends that had known each other from grammar school through college so we headed off to Destin, Florida, long noted as the fishing capital of the Gulf Coast.
After a long day of fishing, we decided that we had to have a name for our group. We looked at “Fishing at Fifty” and figured it was too lame. We decided that “Still Trolling After All These Years” sounded a little too needy. Since we had caught our limit of Red Snappers on our trip, one guy blurted out, “ We are Snapper Snatchers” and our group was born.
We soon evolved into “The Original Snapper Snatchers- – Distinguished Gentlemen of the High Seas”. We wanted to be known as the Originals since we figured that with time there would be many others who would want to be included in our ranks. We thought we were Distinguished, since several of us are sporting gray. Gentlemen; –well, we try our best. We threw in the High Seas because it sounded nautical.
We have several purposes for our website. Above all else we want to have a good time with it and make it a place that people will want to check out to see what we have going on. We also plan to sell trademarked Snapper Snatcher merchandise in order to partially pay for our annual fishing trips as well as contributing to area charities. Along with merchandise we will provide as many of our tried and true seafood recipes as we can remember. We hope to have SnapperSnatcher Chapters wherever there is good fishing or good times.
Come in and visit
with us awhile but do plan to come back as we will
be constantly upgrading our site.
